Berlin Cannabis Clubs: Licensed Associations Explained
A Berlin cannabis club under the KCanG is a licensed, non-commercial cultivation association. It is not a bar, tourist attraction or public weed shop, and membership brings formal conditions and responsibilities.

QUICK ANSWER
What to know first
- Members must be adults and generally have lived in Germany for at least six months.
- A person may be a member of only one cultivation association at a time.
- Consumption is prohibited within an association’s enclosed property and within sight of its entrance under the federal rules.
01What an Anbauvereinigung is
Cultivation associations organize collective, non-commercial cultivation for their members’ own consumption. Members are expected to participate, and the association finances its work through membership contributions rather than ordinary public retail sales.
Berlin’s LAGeSo is responsible for permits for associations based in Berlin. Berlin also publishes a voluntary list of licensed associations; it is useful for verification but is not necessarily complete because publication is voluntary.
02Membership is not a tourist shortcut
Federal guidance states that members must be at least 18 and must generally have had a residence or habitual stay in Germany for six months. Associations must provide a minimum membership period in their rules. These conditions make a club fundamentally different from a walk-in shop.
- Read the association’s statutes, fees and participation requirements.
- Verify its legal identity and Berlin permit status.
- Do not join multiple associations or use someone else’s membership.
03How to verify a Berlin cannabis club
Start with official Berlin information, then compare the association’s full legal name, address and contact information. Be cautious if a group describes itself as licensed but will not identify its legal entity, promises instant tourist membership or operates only through private messages.
BERLIN CANNABIS FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can a tourist join a Berlin cannabis club?
Federal guidance generally requires six months of residence or habitual stay in Germany, so a short-term visitor would not normally qualify.

No. The KCanG restricts a person to membership in one cultivation association at a time.
Does Berlin publish licensed clubs?
Berlin publishes a voluntary list of officially recognized associations. It does not claim to be complete because not every licensed association chooses publication.
