01Possession and home cultivation
The KCanG sets adult limits for possession in public and at a residence and permits limited private cultivation for personal use. Going beyond the permitted framework can be an administrative offence or crime depending on the conduct and amount. Cannabis and plants must be secured against access by children, young people and other third parties.
Importing cannabis across the German border remains prohibited. Do not assume that lawful possession inside Germany makes transport from another country lawful.
02Where consumption is restricted
Consumption is prohibited in the immediate presence of minors and in or within sight of protected places such as schools, children’s and youth facilities, playgrounds and publicly accessible sports facilities. The law uses a 100-metre distance around relevant entrances for the ‘within sight’ rule. Consumption in pedestrian zones is prohibited between 07:00 and 20:00.
Cultivation associations and the area within sight of their entrances have additional consumption restrictions. Private venues, housing providers and event organizers may also set stricter house rules.
03Distribution, advertising and road safety
The law does not authorize ordinary person-to-person sales or public recreational retail. Supplying cannabis to minors remains especially serious, and advertising or sponsorship can be prohibited. Never drive while impaired; road-traffic rules and safety duties apply separately from possession law.
